Werkhart International was engaged in planning the German Esplanade, an open air exhibition on the Daxinggong Square in Nanjing, for the “Germany and China – Moving ahead Together” culture and SciTech exchange event. The event, spanning three years and six major cities across China including Nanjing and Shanghai, has received full support from the Chinese president Hu Jintao and the German federal president Horst Koehler. .
Together with the German artist Markus Heinsdorft, Werkhart has been approached for designing a dozen of featured pavilions on the square. The main idea is the connection of traditional Asian construction with high quality German workmanship and modern technology using sustainable materials. This has resulted in the exhibition pavilions made from bamboo, a solution fulfilling its due function against the ecologic and trendy setting. More interesting is the sustainable consideration that enables the pavilions to be reused for further use in other host cities. |
