Mr. Quinn Lu at Greenbuild 2008 in Singapore

Date: 2008-03-22

Greenbuild 2008 opened at Pan Pacific Hotel in Singapore today. The conference and expo was co-hosted by the government of Singapore and the Singaporean BIC Asia. The guests, including Kevin Hydes, President of World Green Building Council, Ray Cole, Director of Architecture School of Canadian University of Columbia, Nirmal Kishnani, Professor of Architecture School of National University of Singapore, as well as Quinn Lu, director of Werkhart International, debated on the development of green building in the globe. Mr. Quinn Lu captured the evolution of low-energy-consuming building in China based on a case-study. “The difficulty in green building construction is still there,” he noted, “On the one hand, the developer has different opinion on the value of green building since the preliminary cost is likely to rise somewhat; on the other hand, the consumer is yet under-informed about the benefits of green building. An absence of cost-efficient green housing has been observed in China. Few products up to now are able to deliver due performance or durability. The green concept means more a label that the developer is cashing in on than a compulsory standard to ensure improved quality.”
